Galena Fest 2010 Expands to 2 Days
Festival Features Competitive Mountain Bike Climb, 10k Race, Kids Bike Races, Fishing Contest, Art in the Park, Activities & Festival
Reno, NV – August 9, 2010 – Galena Fest, Inc. has organized its signature event, Galena Fest 2010, to be held Saturday & Sunday, September 25 & 26, 2010, to raise funds for and awareness about outdoor recreational resources in the Sierra.
On Saturday, visitors to the Park can enjoy live music, pre-registration for events, and free fishing lessons. A Silent Auction will feature Race Day premier, front row parking along with other valuable prizes. Events take place from 3p-6p.
Sunday kicks off with an 8:30am start of The Bloody Rose, sponsored by Watson Rounds LLC. The Bloody Rose is the only competitive mountain bike race to include more than 4700’ elevation climb over the 12.2 mile course through the Sierra to the top of Relay Peak overlooking Lake Tahoe. This year’s field of riders is expected to surpass last year’s field of riders by nearly double.
New this year is The Thorn, a 10k running race for individuals and teams sponsored by Silver Sage Center for Family Medicine and S. Reno Athletic Club. The Thorn starts at 9:00am and will finish at the top of Sky Tavern, a course of roughly 5.4 miles and an1700’ climb, where a shuttle will take competitors back to the Park. The Big Fish Contest for kids stretches from 10am-1pm so that kids and adults can enjoy the many activities available during the festival. Park-side mountain bike races for those 14 and under begin at 12 noon while Art in the Park, an obstacle course toddlers and horseshoe contest are available throughout the day.
Sunday’s festivities also include live music and festival with food, beer & beverage terrace and vendor participation beginning at 8 am through 3 pm. The Galena High School Marching Band will serenade the start of The Bloody Rose and The Thorn; awards will be given on stage at 1:30 pm.
