moabHoDown2009

Mark your calendar for the 4th Annual Moab Ho-Down Festival, happening the last weekend in October 2009.

Moab’s original fat tire festival has changed and evolved over the past few decades into what is now being presented by Chile Pepper Bike Shop in Moab.

The festival offers group shuttles and rides, dirt jump competition, movie premiere, townie tour, Super D race, DH race and an outrageous costume party with live music. See pics>>> Contact Chile Pepper Bike Shop for more info at 888-677-4688 or email us at info@chilebikes.com

The 2009 festival will be bigger and more bad-ass than ever, so don’t miss it…see you at  The Chile Pepper and the Moab Ho-Down Bike Festival!

Moab Trails Spared for the Moment

December 23, 2008

“Mountain bikers got involved and made their voices heard, speaking in opposition to a proposed Bureau of Land Management (BLM) plan that would lease land parcels for oil and gas extraction near iconic trails such as Porcupine Rim, Amasa Back, Barlett Wash and Tusher Canyon, turning sections of trail into heavily used access roads. Public outcry led the BLM to withdraw the vast majority of leases near these world-class trails.”  complete report at Dirt Rag Magazine.

Famous Moab Trails Put at Risk by Drilling Leases

November 20, 2008

IMBA urges mountain bikers to help preserve some of Moab’s most famous trails. A new Bureau of Land Management (BLM) plan would lease land parcels for oil and gas extraction near iconic trails such as Porcupine Rim, Amasa Back, Barlett Wash and Tusher Canyon, turning sections of trail into heavily used access roads. IMBA respects the need for domestic energy production, but believes Moab is better served by protecting its world-class recreational assets.

Moab ‘08 Sovereign Singletrack

May 18, 2008

One of Moab’s best single track rides this one has become the favorite Moab ride for some dhReno riders!

Moab ‘08 Porcupine Rim

April 27, 2008

One of Moab’s premier rides – “Porky” has it all. We shuttled 10 miles from town up the Sand Flats road to the trail head and started the 3 mile granny gear climb up the broken slickrock. From there it is an unforgettable 11 miles and 2,800 ft rip roaring descent – the last 3 miles are on an amazing singletrack cut into a cliff over the Colorado River. The last 6 miles on pavement was a dhReno first – an organized pace line riding flat out back into town.

Dino tracks, awesome scenery, hurricane force winds and a good old Sahara style sand storm made this one a ride to remember!

2007 SRAM Components Rock!

October 7, 2006

Rockshox TotemThe new Rockshox Totem fork, that we pounded at the Interbike Outdoor Demo, was definately the fork that generated the most buzz with dhReno riders.  The Totem is an awesome 180mm travel, 40mm stanchions, single crown fork that is available in either air, coil or 2 step with a 1 1/8″ or 1.5″ steer tube. This fork is better than most of the downhill forks from a couple of years ago and it comes in at around 6 lbs!

The Boxxer WC is another fork that continues to impress and is probably the best DH fork currently available.

The Code Brakes are hot and our riders are very interested in them – I’m sure that they’ll be showing up on local dh and fr bikes soon!

Here are some great photos and commentary (from this year’s SRAM preview in Moab) on the new components:
